I have the same problem – did you get an answer?
Noticed my 2011 A3 doesn’t play DVD videos even though there is a dvd rom player behind the nav unit… how can I play videos (while parked of course) through the nav screen? I have the ipod link, not the cd changer, if that helps at all.
